BEACH HOUSE

THE STORY
Beach House Wines was founded by Chris and Jill Harrison after the pair met studying winemaking at Roseworthy College in Adelaide. Drawn to Hawke’s Bay and the lifestyle that comes with it, they planted roots in the Gimblett Gravels in 1996, establishing vineyards focused largely on red varieties while raising their family in the region.

The Beach House name reflects the laid-back coastal lifestyle that’s deeply tied to Hawke’s Bay. Alongside the Gimblett Gravels plantings, the family also established the Levels Vineyard at Te Awanga, right by the sea. Planted on stony coastal gravels and shaped by cooling sea breezes, the site produces Chardonnay and Riesling with concentration, freshness, and natural acidity.

Now firmly a family operation, the next generation has become increasingly involved in the business, helping continue the hands-on approach the winery was built on. That family connection remains at the core of Beach House - from the vineyards through to the wines themselves.

THE WINES
Beach House produces a range of expressive Hawke’s Bay wines that overdeliver for the price and stay true to the region they come from. The range spans everything from fresh, vibrant whites through to fuller-bodied reds grown in the Gimblett Gravels, with a strong focus on balance, drinkability, and varietal character.

The coastal influence of Te Awanga brings brightness and tension to the Chardonnay and Riesling, while the warmer inland sites provide richness and structure for varieties like Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec. The wines are made in a style that’s approachable and generous, while still retaining a real sense of place.

THE WINEMAKER
Chris Harrison has long been part of the Hawke’s Bay drinks scene, known for both brewing and winemaking. Before focusing fully on Beach House Wines, Chris founded Rooster’s Brewhouse, helping build one of the region’s well-known craft beer operations.

Today, Beach House remains focused on producing approachable, character-filled Hawke’s Bay wines that reflect both site and lifestyle - wines made to be enjoyed, shared, and opened with good company.
