BLACKENBROOK

WINERY
Blackenbrook is a family-owned winery tucked into the rolling hills near Tasman Village in Nelson, producing small-volume wines that reflect the region’s sunshine, soils, and relaxed coastal lifestyle.

Established on a north-facing site planted in 2001, the vineyard sits on Moutere clay soils shaped by a mild maritime climate. Sustainability has always been at the heart of Blackenbrook, with a focus on healthy soils, strong vines, and minimal intervention both in the vineyard and winery. The estate is accredited by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand, with many of the wines unfined and vegan friendly.

Blackenbrook produces a diverse range of varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Montepulciano - a rare Italian red variety that has become a signature of the estate.

VINEYARD
Designed with a practical, hands-on approach to both viticulture and winemaking, the vineyard has been shaped around producing expressive wines that genuinely reflect site and season.

The combination of Nelson sunshine, coastal influence, and Moutere clay soils creates wines with purity, texture, and balance across both aromatic whites and elegant reds. Sustainability and minimal intervention remain central to the philosophy at Blackenbrook, both in the vineyard and in the winery.

THE NEXT CHAPTER
Blackenbrook is now entering an exciting new chapter, with the Schwarzenbach family continuing to lead the winery and vineyard into the future.

With the support of new winemaker Trudy Sheild of Sheild Wines, production has recommenced with a renewed focus on crafting vibrant, approachable wines that reflect the unique character of Nelson and the spirit of Blackenbrook.
