More than 25 years ago, Tim and Margaret Coney transformed a bare Martinborough sheep paddock into a thriving family vineyard and winery. Built through hands-on work, patience and close attention to detail, Coney Wines has always followed one simple belief - small is beautiful.

From One Generation to the Next
In 2022, ownership passed to their daughter and long-time winemaker Lisa, and her husband Rusty. Together, they continue the Coney legacy of producing expressive, food-friendly wines made to be shared with family and friends.

The vineyard remains proudly hands-on, with leaf plucking, bunch thinning and low yields helping to produce healthy, perfectly ripened fruit.

Letting Martinborough Speak
The winemaking approach is deliberately minimalist, allowing the fruit and terroir to speak for themselves.

Pinot Noir holds a special place at Coney. The Pizzicato Pinot Noir brings together seven different clones from vines now more than 25 years old, creating a wine with depth, savoury character and distinctly Martinborough personality.

Serious About Riesling
Coney is equally passionate about Riesling and its remarkable ability to produce everything from bone-dry, age-worthy wines to vibrant off-dry and gently sparkling styles.

Three expressions are made: the dry and elegant Rallentando, the refreshing and lightly sparkling Ritz, and the off-dry Ragtime. Each has its own personality and place at the table, particularly alongside seafood, poultry and spicier dishes.

The wider range includes Pinot Gris, Rosé and Syrah, all made with the same focus on balance, character and food-friendly drinkability.

A Little Poetry in Every Bottle
Coney’s love of music, language and the arts runs through the entire range. The wines carry names such as Pizzicato, Rallentando, Ragtime, Piccolo and Que Sera, while the back of every bottle features original verse from founder and resident wordsmith Tim Coney.

It’s a welcome alternative to the usual wine-label humbug and one more reason Coney Wines are full of personality, both inside and outside the bottle.
