Inspired by Sceloglaux albifacies — New Zealand's extinct Laughing Owl — Laughing Owl Whisky pays tribute to one of Aotearoa's most fascinating native birds. Once a dominant nocturnal hunter, its unmistakable call was said to resemble eerie, maniacal laughter, echoing through forests across the country.

One of the species' last recorded sightings was near the Ōpihi River, where its legacy still lives on in local history and at Owl Rock. Though the bird is long gone, its untamed spirit continues to inspire everything Laughing Owl stands for.
